Chris Herdman, Ph. D.

Dr. Herdman is a Full Professor of Cognitive Science and Experimental Psychology and the Scientific Director of VSIM.  As Director of the ACE Lab, Dr. Herdman leads an interdisciplinary team of researchers, simulation engineers and students.  This team bridges fundamental and applied research and is a strong advocate for co-operative efforts between academia, industry and government agencies.


Dr. Herdman has over 20 years of R&D experience in human factors, simulation, cognitive engineering, human attention, workload analysis, situation awareness, experimental design and evaluation. He has produced over 150 articles and conference presentations and has supervised numerous student projects and theses. Dr. Herdman is a recipient of a Carleton University Research Award and in 1994 was selected as a Visiting Research Scientist for the Medical Research Council Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit in Cambridge U.K.

           

Dr. Herdman has served on many boards and councils and is presently a member of the Executive Board for the Society for the Advancement of Modelling and Simulation (SAMS).

  

Dr. Herdman has received over $36 million in research funding from research contracts, the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI), Ontario Innovation Trust (OIT), NSERC, SSHRC and the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE).
